I think Selena Gomez is going out with one of the Jonas Brothers too. Anyway, if you want to get all the latest gossip on who was on what show, who's dating who, what songs they have out, etc.....you're gonna have to look all that up on your own because it's too much for me to even bother with. American Idol will hold auditions for its new season in San Juan, Puerto Rico and seven other cities. This is only the second time that it has gone outside the continental United States. The other place was in Hawaii.

The auditions are open to men and women ages 16 to 28 as of July 15 who are eligible to work in the United States. All the info can be found at AmericanIdol.com.

Yoga event stretches across US-Mexico border fence

I just thought it was interesting because I have been to Mexico City a few times. Mostly through the airport, but I have been able to drive around for a bit twice. It definitely has a reputation of being overcrowded, polluted, and full of crime, so this should be an interesting inside look of a foreigner going in and telling his story.

So let's say you're in Costa Rica for whatever reason and you absolutely fall in love with a stray cat or dog. You want to bring it back home to the States. What do you do? I honestly didn't think you could, or if you could it would be a huge hassle. Here is a bit of info:

"If you are going back to the States, or Canada, it is actually very easy. The dog, or cat, will need to receive all the required vaccinations, including rabies. Any vet will know what to do, and they will then provide you with a certificate that you will need to present at the airport, prior to your trip. Upon arrival on U.S. or Canadian soil, domestic dogs or cats must be free of evidence of diseases that can be contracted by humans. If the animal is not in apparent good health, further examination by a licensed veterinarian may be required at the owner’s expense."

Cuz I don't even know. On Sunday Mexico sprang forward an hour.

"Clocks in Mexico will spring forward an hour at 2 a.m. The time change will end the one-hour time difference that existed on the border for the past four weeks, a difference that affected thousands of people who split their time between Baja California and San Diego County."

That makes sense because when I talked to my dad a few days ago he said he was 2 hours ahead from me now. Arizona doesn't do daylight savings time for some reason that I'm too lazy to research right now, so for my family and friends in IL I usually have to remind them of that time difference. I'm either an hour behind or 2 hours behind. As of right now I'm 2 hours behind. And yes, I have been woken up by many a text message at 6 am or earlier by lovely friends who think that I'm awake at those ungodly hours because they themselves are at work or on their way to work :)

I had no idea this happened but I guess every month in Mexico City bagpipers honor the Irish who fought for Mexico by going through a plaza in downtown Mexico City.

I recently switched back to Netflix from Blockbuster online. Why? Because I just didn't really feel like going to the Blockbuster store every week to trade in movies that were mailed out to me for free, in-store movies. It's a nice perk of the program, but honestly I would just get lazy. Plus with Netflix I like being able to watch some movies and tv shows online too. (I recently started watching The L word) So anyway, just thought I would share a list of certain movies in Spanish that are subtitled in English that I've seen that I think you should check out. According to the Washington Post and as reported on the Kaiser Network, young Hispanic women are more likely than other girls to attempt suicide. I can't say I've known anybody that was like this. I thought it would have been something that was more visible with white teenagers. The article is interesting nonetheless and it would be interesting to see other studies.

I watched this movie over the weekend. I know a lot of people have their issues with Jennifer Lopez. Well, she doesn't bother me and I have to give her some props for doing all she does. Anyway, I thought this movie was very good and gave me some insight as to what atrocities have been happening in Ciudad Juarez in Mexico. For those who don't know, Juarez is right across the border from El Paso, Texas. This movie is about the hundreds of rapes and murders that have been happening to Mexican women (many of whom work in factories late at night). Many of the cases go unsolved and many have not received proper justice due to some corruption in the government. I don't want to give away too much. But here is the trailer. Bottom line, intense moments based on true events. J. Lo also seems to be wearing a really bad wig in the beginning ha.

I think Shakira still has a ways to go to get up to that status.

WTF?!?! Oh heeeellllll no.........lol. These are some of my reactions to a few videos of quinceañera "dances" that were found on Youtube. I was in 2 quinceaneras not even 10 years ago and our dances were nothing like this. They were actually waltzes that were much more traditional and family appropriate like this one:

But no no no my friend. The times have changed. These next few videos will show you how. First we have a dance to Soulja Boy. Yes, Soulja Boy. The overplayed, kind of Jamaican sounding song that seems to be everywhere. First off, do they know what the lyrics to this song mean? Second, if you're gonna dance to this can't you at least use the edited version? You know your grandma is there! Last, was it really necessary to use that little boy? Check out the end. She's actually "flying" like Superman. For some reason this song is getting played at a lot of quinces.

Next one. Are you going to dance like this in front of your papá and abuela? My ass woulda got slapped!

And don't forget the themed quince. This young lady decided to go with Beauty and the Beast. Honestly, the Beast looks pretty ridiculous.

Ahhhh yes. The coming of age party for a young girl's transition into womanhood. On a lighter note, the movie Quinceañera was actually really good and showed what I think really goes on with teenagers. I give it 2 thumbs up.

It took experts to figure out that people would probably leave Arizona.

"For months, immigrants have taken a wait-and-see attitude toward the state's new employer-sanctions law, which takes effect Jan. 1. The voter-approved legislation is an attempt to lessen the economic incentive for illegal immigrants in Arizona, the busiest crossing point along the U.S.-Mexico border.

Under the employer sanctions law, businesses found to have knowingly hired illegal workers will be subject to sanctions from probation to a 10-day suspension of their business licenses. A second violation would bring permanent revocation of the license."

So because of this a lot of illegal immigrants are leaving the state or country because they don't want to get in trouble or treated badly. Well, yeah!

Costa Rica and their mail issues

200 metros del Rostipollos........or something like that. That was part of my address when I was in Costa Rica. There was a restaurant called Rostipollos in Costa Rica and my host family's house was nearby. Basically if you had to take a taxi anywhere, you would have to give directions by landmarks and distance.

The postal service in Costa Rica is now assigning numbers, street names, and postal codes to make the process of delivering mail much easier for the mail carriers. Often times mail is undeliverable because they can't figure out what the addresses mean.

"Officials have rolled out more than 430,000 streamlined addresses, mostly in urban areas. They hope to convert the entire country over the next two years if the government allocates about $1 million to finish the job.
Erecting street signs will take a lot longer and cost a bundle. Correos de Costa Rica is trying to persuade the private sector to help pay for that effort."

At the end of the trek awaited their cousins, delicious food, trips to church and days of parties to celebrate Christmas.It was a beloved part of their childhood, so the Chicago-area school administrators understand why families make the annual trek to their homelands. But they can't understand why so many families -- an estimated 10 percent of the Hispanic students in Waukegan, for example -- plan these trips to last a month or more, far beyond the traditional two-week holiday break Illinois schools allow."

This was definitely my family and I. Ever since I was a baby until about 3rd or 4th grade, this is what we did every year. We would drive in our car or truck every year from IL to Guanajuato (pretty deep into Mexico) for about 2 days non-stop. Of course we would stop for the bathroom break and perhaps a nap for my parents who were driving. One year we drove down in a 2-door car with no air, with 3 adults, 3 kids, and a tire in the backseat. ?!?!?! I have no idea why we had a tire with us, but maybe so we could fit all of our bags and suitcases? We definitely ghetto-packed that car. It was our own version of a clown car. Memories of having to have my teachers prepare lesson plans for the next few weeks because I knew I'd be missing days..........having to do my math homework and memorize new prayers in Mexico ( I went to Catholic school)......Ah yes, I know this story all too well.

As for having to "pay the price," psh, I turned out fine.

51% of Mexican-American women between the ages of 40 and 59 are considered to be obese. BUT, the good news is that a lot of it will magically be lost. Ok, maybe not magically, but the percentage goes down a lot.

"Middle-age adults are still packing on the most pounds. The study found that 53 percent of non-Hispanic black women and 51 percent of Mexican-American women between 40 and 59 were classified as obese, compared with 39 percent of non-Hispanic white women.

After age 60, the obesity rate for black women jumped to 61 percent, though it declined to 37 percent for Mexican-American women and to 32 percent for non-Hispanic white women, according to the report."

"I'm a big, big cooker in my family, so this is kind of an extension of my house. I feel like everybody's going to be in my living room."Longoria swears she's hands-on when it comes to BESO, which is located in Hollywood and is in partnership with celebrity chef Todd English. "I'm so involved, I picked the uniforms," she said. "A lot of these are my recipes. We've developed a really fun menu." One person who's already a devoted fan of Longoria's culinary creations: husband Tony Parker. (The two wed in France at an over-the-top wedding this past July.) "I cook anything he wants to eat," she said. "Everything. I mean, every day it's a different date."
Giving Thanks, And PizzaThe Housewife also put food where her mouth is by bringing pizza to the picket line in a show of support for her show's striking writers. She also says that the cast got together to help sweeten the holiday for the series' behind-the-scenes staff. "We got everybody in our crew a turkey for Thanksgiving," Longoria says. "We went and bought 300 turkeys, and we handed them out the last day we were shooting. And I know that's not a lot, but it's a gesture [that] we're going to get through this." A major earthquake crushed cars, damaged hundreds of houses and terrified people for hundreds of miles around Wednesday. Authorities reported at least two deaths and more than 100 injuries.

The quake, which struck at 12:40 p.m., shook the Chilean capital 780 miles to the south of the epicenter, and was felt as far away as the other side of the continent — in Sao Paulo, Brazil, 1,400 miles to the east.
