Wal-mart promotes tradiciones

Super-giant Hell-mart, I mean Wal-mart, bring the Three Kings to their stores. Santa Claus isn't the only holiday visitor in town.

"As part of this Hispanic-themed holiday campaign, Wal-Mart will also feature Rosca de Reyes (Hispanic holiday Kings Cake) and traditional hot chocolate for its customers."

Thankfully I've never been stopped by the police. Note to self: steer clear of Tennessee.

Trouble in Paradise?

Ok, I'm sure we've all heard enough about this. Some French model claims she met Tony Parker on his wedding day and soon they began to exchange steamy texts and hook-up. Did they? I have no idea. Does anyone really care? Not really. Maybe it's just some cry for attention.

Baby-face bullfighters are becoming the new rage in Mexico. These boys are not allowed to fight in Spain, but in Mexico, where almost anything seems to go, there are no laws in place for age limitations.

Mexico goes hybrid

Mexico will be trying to do more to save the earth by manufacturing the Saturn Vue for export to the United States. Domestic sales may also be a possibility in the future.

Put down that tortilla! (For now)

51% of Mexican-American women between the ages of 40 and 59 are considered to be obese. BUT, the good news is that a lot of it will magically be lost. Ok, maybe not magically, but the percentage goes down a lot.

"Middle-age adults are still packing on the most pounds. The study found that 53 percent of non-Hispanic black women and 51 percent of Mexican-American women between 40 and 59 were classified as obese, compared with 39 percent of non-Hispanic white women.

After age 60, the obesity rate for black women jumped to 61 percent, though it declined to 37 percent for Mexican-American women and to 32 percent for non-Hispanic white women, according to the report."

I love technology, but not as much as you, you see

I believe Kip had the right idea. Latinos love them some music, but are lagging behind everyone else when it comes to laptop and computer purchases

"The report found that, overall, 33 percent of Hispanic consumers own handheld video game devices, compared with 30 percent of non-Hispanic consumers, and that 37 percent owned a portable MP3 player, compared with 34 percent for non-Hispanic consumers.

On the Internet, Hispanics outpace non Hispanics in downloading music and videos and using social networking sites, but aren't as likely to research products for purchase, the survey found."

New Web sites and marketing efforts may be able to boost those numbers.

No smoke for Mexico

A Mexican congressional committee approved a ban on smoking in public places. It's not clear which public places this includes.

Can I have 4 beers?

Health and tradition or beer? Cerveza por favor! Mexicans are starting to act like Pearl and preferring beer instead of a sacred Aztec drink. Is this seriously news that Mexicans like beer? I've never even heard of this other stuff.

Another slain singer

The drug dealers and anyone involved in Mexico (and all over the world) need to stop the senseless violence. It really is getting out of hand. Over the past 2 years several singers/musicians have been killed in Mexico. Here is another story that happened a few weeks ago.

MEXICO CITY - Although the relentless wave of violence in Mexico can be numbing, the brutal slaying of singer Sergio Gomez unleashed raw emotion among his fans Tuesday.

Maria de Jesus Torres clutched a newspaper clipping of Gomez, the lead singer of K-Paz de la Sierra and a former Chicagoan, who was kidnapped, tortured and strangled this week after a concert in Michoacan, a state known for drug violence.
