51% of Mexican-American women between the ages of 40 and 59 are considered to be obese. BUT, the good news is that a lot of it will magically be lost. Ok, maybe not magically, but the percentage goes down a lot.

"Middle-age adults are still packing on the most pounds. The study found that 53 percent of non-Hispanic black women and 51 percent of Mexican-American women between 40 and 59 were classified as obese, compared with 39 percent of non-Hispanic white women.

After age 60, the obesity rate for black women jumped to 61 percent, though it declined to 37 percent for Mexican-American women and to 32 percent for non-Hispanic white women, according to the report."

I believe Kip had the right idea. Latinos love them some music, but are lagging behind everyone else when it comes to laptop and computer purchases

"The report found that, overall, 33 percent of Hispanic consumers own handheld video game devices, compared with 30 percent of non-Hispanic consumers, and that 37 percent owned a portable MP3 player, compared with 34 percent for non-Hispanic consumers.

On the Internet, Hispanics outpace non Hispanics in downloading music and videos and using social networking sites, but aren't as likely to research products for purchase, the survey found."

New Web sites and marketing efforts may be able to boost those numbers.

Another slain singer

The drug dealers and anyone involved in Mexico (and all over the world) need to stop the senseless violence. It really is getting out of hand. Over the past 2 years several singers/musicians have been killed in Mexico. Here is another story that happened a few weeks ago.

MEXICO CITY - Although the relentless wave of violence in Mexico can be numbing, the brutal slaying of singer Sergio Gomez unleashed raw emotion among his fans Tuesday.

Maria de Jesus Torres clutched a newspaper clipping of Gomez, the lead singer of K-Paz de la Sierra and a former Chicagoan, who was kidnapped, tortured and strangled this week after a concert in Michoacan, a state known for drug violence.

Eva Longoria knows how to throw it down in the kitchen

People Magazine

By Jed Dreben

Thanks to the writers strike, Eva Longoria has a little extra time on her hands. But don't worry, the Desperate Housewives star is keeping busy, whipping up Thanksgiving dinner and finalizing plans for her Mexican-American restaurant, BESO. "I love to cook!" Longoria, 32, told PEOPLE while relaxing at the soon-to-open eatery during Samsung's BlackJack II event Wednesday night. "I'm a big, big cooker in my family, so this is kind of an extension of my house. I feel like everybody's going to be in my living room."Longoria swears she's hands-on when it comes to BESO, which is located in Hollywood and is in partnership with celebrity chef Todd English. "I'm so involved, I picked the uniforms," she said. "A lot of these are my recipes. We've developed a really fun menu." One person who's already a devoted fan of Longoria's culinary creations: husband Tony Parker. (The two wed in France at an over-the-top wedding this past July.) "I cook anything he wants to eat," she said. "Everything. I mean, every day it's a different date."
Giving Thanks, And PizzaThe Housewife also put food where her mouth is by bringing pizza to the picket line in a show of support for her show's striking writers. She also says that the cast got together to help sweeten the holiday for the series' behind-the-scenes staff. "We got everybody in our crew a turkey for Thanksgiving," Longoria says. "We went and bought 300 turkeys, and we handed them out the last day we were shooting. And I know that's not a lot, but it's a gesture [that] we're going to get through this." So, with Thanksgiving in the air, what's Longoria thankful for this year? "My new marriage" she said, beaming. "I'm really lucky that I got to find someone like Tony who's putting up with me."

Hello! This is the first blog I have ever had. I will be putting up various videos, pictures, and quotes from various events and people that I feel are interesting or should be recognized in the Latino/Hispanic/Chicano world. I welcome your thoughts and input to share with me.

I hope some of these will make you laugh, anger you, make you think, and allow you to learn about the vast Spanish speaking, English speaking, and Spanglish speaking communities that are out there.

Enjoy!
